Powdersville Water is searching for a qualified candidate to fill an open “IT System Administrator” position. The primary responsibility of the IT System Administrator will be managing the utility’s information technology systems and including support for a limited operational technology environment. The position is responsible for maintaining reliable, efficient IT infrastructure, coordinating with third party vendors, and supporting all utility departments. This is a single-incumbent role in a small utility environment that requires independent judgment, initiative, and broad technical capabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Administers and maintains IT systems, including computers, networks, cloud platforms, and communications
- Manages user accounts, permissions, email, and device configurations
- Performs system updates, backups, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Develops and maintains IT policies, procedures, and standards
- Supports IT planning, system inventory, lifecycle management, and technology roadmap
- Coordinates cybersecurity efforts and ensures staff awareness and compliance with industry standards
- Provides support for SCADA, telemetry, and remote monitoring systems
- Maintains data integrity, system documentation, and reporting for operations and compliance
- Supports utility software (billing, asset management, GIS)
- Prepares reports, trend analysis, and presentations
- Serves as liaison with IT vendors, service providers, and internal staff; coordinates upgrades, support and procurement
Preferred Experience & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, and two (2) to five (5) years of progressively responsible IT support experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Familiarity with SCADA or industrial control systems
- Knowledge of regulatory/compliance reporting and cybersecurity principles
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CISSP, CISM)
- Strong understanding of computer systems, networks, and business software
- Ability to troubleshoot issues independently and manage multiple priorities, communicate technical concepts to non-technical users, and coordinate effectively with vendors and contractors

- Sensus/Xylem AMI metering software and technologies
