Meter Tampering and Water Theft – Builders and Developers – Take Note!
Powdersville Water is pleased to see continued growth in our service area. However, the growth has brought with it a few issues that need to be addressed regarding Powdersville Water’s policies and standard operating procedures.
Meter Tampering and water theft are illegal and are subject to fines and penalties
According to South Carolina State Code, it is unlawful for anyone to tamper with or damage a water meter, the meter seal, the lock/locking device, curb stop or valves, meter setter, meter box or meter vault.
Use of Private Wells
Powdersville Water’s approved policy does not allow for interconnection of private wells with the same piping served by one of our taps.
Cross-connections are dangerous and are prohibited
The SC Department of Environmental Control (SCDHEC) defines cross-connection as “any actual or potential connection or structural arrangement between a public water supply and any other source or system through which it is possible to introduce into any part of the potable water system any used water, industrial fluid, gas or substance other than the intended potable water which the system is supplied”.
